Title of the technology : This was tried only to control the ecological system as due to regular use of chemical fertilizer there was adverse effect on fruit size, weight and keeping quality of fruit. So farmer had two option one for organic manure or for product of neem and kernel extract. They came in contact with scientists on different forum and went different literatures. So he used neem kernel extract in mango- litchi orchard.

Brief Description of Technology, Justification Including Innovation, if any, Implementation and Support (not more than 150 words) : Sri Jitendra Singh a native of Namideeh of Lalganj block in is graduate in LLB. He is engaged in farming system since 1990. He is main grower of Mango & Litchi and has formed a group of farmers who is involved in growing Mango & Litchi. His group is doing all the latest practices of grading, Packing and marketing and almost 28 persons are engaged in his team who are taking care of this activity. His produce is being marketed to Howrah, Hoogli of west Bengal specially. He is also involved in vegetable cultivation specially of Okra and he is known for high density Okra cultivation and is getting return such as Rs. 552 to 600 Kg produce alternate day as compare to 200 kg alternate day by high density planting in compare to traditional planting. He has started the use of Neem Kernal for his orchard and is getting the profit of Rs. 3 to 4 lakh per anum through Mango & Litchi Rs. 2 to 3 lakh per anum through Okra cultivation. By this versatile activity in the field of agriculture he has honoured by the award of Mahindra Sammridhi award and Jagjeevan Ram Kisan Abhinav Puruskar on national level followed by different award on state & district level. He is won different awards like Jagjeevan Ram Innovative Farmer Award 2015, Litchi Ratan Award, Innovative farming in 2013 and farmer of the year 2015 by IIEL foundation.

Saving on pesticides helps improve quality of fruit particularly, keeping quality and self life. There is a more income for farmers who are using this technique for fruit production of Mango & Litchi. So farmers are coming under one umbrella for fruit production by this organic method.

For income farmers are cultivating Banana, Mango and Litchi along with animal husbandry practices. Due to advent of IT technology and awareness programme on Health and Nutrition, there is a change in food habit of people. Consumers are searching high quality protein for their food supplement. To meet the consumer demand, Mushroom can be a ideal for farm income. So more and more growers are coming in market for livelihood improvement. Mushroom can provide both nutritional and economical security to the farmers.

This is giving employment generation to rural youth and farmers also. More farmers are coming with huge investment for bulk production of mushroom. They are marketing not only Patna but also in other big cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Varanasi etc. So consumers are getting round the year mushroom as per need. Some farmers are now exploring for value addition of mushroom by making pickles and other dishes.

There is huge scope of mushroom production in Vaishali district as there is big between demand and supply. Agro-ecology, Farming Situation Analysis with Problem Statement (not more than 150 words) : Banana cultivation is a major source of income of farmers of Vaishali district. Vaishali is famous for variety of banana like Malbhog, Chinia, Kothia, Alpan etc. Banana cultivation is more popular among farmers due to more return on investment, but there is a problem of disposal of banana stem after harvesting of fruit. Generally farmer offer stem to animals as a feed but still there is problem for disposal for disposal of stem. Stem is waste to the farmer and no income from stem.

Brief Description of Technology, Justification Including Innovation, if any, Implementation and Support (not more than 150 words) : Banana is one of the important cash crops of Vaishali district and there is nobody who was interested for its value added product such as marketing of Banana Fiber. One person Sri Nitiesh Kumar aged 23 yrs of village Kamalpur Singh Block- Bidupur took the training on Banana fiber machine at KVK, Vaishali in the year 2011 and then formed a group of 25 farmers who were interested in Banana fiber production and all the members of his group were trained at KVK, Vaishali. Since Sri Kumar is a graduate so there was not a problem for motivation and he made his mind very clear and made his continuous effort with the KVK Scientist for processing of the Banana fiber by machine and purchased two machines and is getting the banana fiber from their machine. Now he is earning more than Rs. 3.00 lakh per year from this machine and Rs. 17500 from the wastage of the produce by Vermi compost and Rs. 20000/yr. from handicraft product of Banana SAP. His income is an example of the area and there are many persons who have taken interest in his work. He is supplying his Banana fibber to different textiles and paper industry. He is an young icon of the Vaishali district besides fiber product he is also doing fish production, Dairy farming and crop cultivation as his interest and is satisfied by these income.

From the waste farmer can make money and variable product in the form of fibre, paper, clothes etc can be made. This technique can provide social as well as economical security to lesser privileged people of society.

Title of the technology : Quail farming

Agro-ecology, Farming Situation Analysis with Problem Statement (not more than 150 words) :Poultry farming is popular among rural youth and young entrepreneur. Broiler farming is profitable and there is a quick return on investment i.e., after 35 – 45 days. But due to high fluctuation rate in market poultry farmers are not getting profit all the time. Sometimes they may be in loss due to fewer prices in market and monopoly of big players of market. So farmers showing less attraction towards poultry farming as compare to other livestock farming. Keeping in mind above factors KVK, Vaishali has given training some to young entrepreneur to establish a quail farm with on hatchery.

Brief Description of Technology, Justification Including Innovation, if any, Implementation and Support (not more than 150 words) : Sri Rajdev Rai of Mukundpur Sarasai village in Vaishali district was involved in vermi compost business with his family. He was sustaining his family from adopted business of vermi compost. With the help NGO (Prem Youth Foundation) Sri Rajdev Rai contacted KVK, Vaishali and decided to take risk and start a quail farming business after interacting with KVK Scientist. Sri Rajdev Rai, submitted a proposal to NABARD Vaishali in quail farming including training and assistance input cost DDM, NABARD taken keen interest and sanctioned the proposal. Around 120 (one hundred twenty unemployed) youths were selected by interview and training was given in all aspect of quail farming. He started is business in 2012-2013.With the loan assistance of Rs. 990000=00 (Nine lakh ninety thousand) for hatchery and another Rs. 990000=00 for training and promotion, Prem youth foundation completed the training schedule and formed Panch Murti Agro Producer Company Limited. Hatchery was set up at Mukundpur Sarsai and the farmer associated with the hatchery. Hatchery has capacity of 150000 x 3 = 45000 eggs hatchery capacity. Around 50% is hatchability 3 to 4 days, old chicks are sold @15 for farmer. Each year around 40 cycle comes from hatchery. Net income from one cycle after all payment is around 7000 to 7500. So annually he is earning around 300000 per annum. The farmer has become model especially in quail farming. Many farmers from Bihar visited his hatchery and see to this unit. He is supplying the chicks not only in Bihar but UP also.

Benefits (Economical and Social) (not more than 150 words) : Quail farming is becoming popular among rural youth because there is a big demand of quail dish in hotels and parties. Quail meat is more delicious and healthier as compare to other birds meat. Quail farming is more sustainable because there is no fluctuation in market rate. Birds are sold on pair basis not on weight. The cost of one pair quail bird is around Rs 120 – 150 in local market. On farm level Rs 80 – 100. So, profit margin is around Rs 15 – 20 / bird at farm level. In place of one poultry four quails can be kept easily with less feed and less expenditure. So there is a chance to grab this opportunity for economical and nutritional security to farmers by Quail farming.

People are aware about benefits of quail meat as quail meat has less cholesterol and more minerals in their meat.
